Janet Marie Harty
Janet Harty was named the Head Coach of YNS in the Fall of 2015 and brings with her many years of coaching experience from the Greenwood Memorial Swim Club in Gardner, Massachusetts where she began as the Assistant Age Group Coach and Program Director and for the most recent 3 years served as the Head Coach and Team Manager.
Janet has coached swimmers of all ages starting with lessons and moving up through the age groups to very high level competitive swimming. In her tenure at Greenwood Memorial Swim Club, Janet led swimmers to a wide range of national and international competitions including the 4th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and the 18 & Under World Cup held in Tokyo, Japan and Beijing, China. She has coached swimmers named to USA Swimming National Junior teams in 2014 and 2015 and served as an assistant coach at the 2014 USA Swimming National Junior team training camp held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.
Janet, her husband Phil and their children live in Beverly. Janet's oldest son, Brandon, is a junior student/athlete runner at UMass Lowell, her son Ryan is a freshman student/athlete swimmer at the University of Texas and her daughter, Kaitlin, is a senior in high school and a swimmer with the team. They also have a Weimaraner named Hayley.
Tim James Corcoran
Ipswich Lead Coach
Tim is entering his senior
year at Salem State College as a Biology Major. He has coached and
been a swim instructor at the Beverly YMCA, the Andover Y and the
Manchester Bath and Tennis Club. He formerly competed in track and
baseball at both the high school and collegiate levels. Tim hopes
that experience and knowledge of nutrition and strength training
will benefit the YNS Sharks swim team.
Lead Age Group Coach
Joining the full time staff of YNS in 2015, Alessandro has been
coaching with YNS in multiple roles since 2011. Before
coaching, Alessandro swam for the Sharks from 2003-2013. Alessandro
currently attends Merrimack College as a Human Development major.

Susan Shea Guertin
LVO Head Coach
Susan is in her 32nd year
as head coach of the Marblehead Group. She is also in her 20th year
as the Head Coach of the
swim team. Susan has an impressive record
with both the high school and YMCA team's. Her high school team was
runner-up at the 1998 girls N. Sectional championships, placed
third at the State Championships that year.
has won ten consecutive Northeast
Conference Meet titles. Susan is in her 40th year teaching at the YMCA
and has won two Eastern Mass YMCA District Division II titles and
an overall girl’s team championship in 1992. In 1990, the
Marblehead 9 & 10 Girls won the YMCA New England Championship.
In 1995, Susan had a group of nine swimmers qualify for the LC
National Championships (her first qualifiers). She has had two
swimmers qualify for the SC Nationals and 21 for the LC Nationals
as well as three All-American. Susan graduated from Salem State
College in 1993 with a degree in Aquatic Management. She is a Level
3 ASCA recognized coach. Susan holds a top 10 time as a swimmer in
the 100 Back and 1650 Free for NE Master's Swimming. She also set
the record, for her age group, in the 200m Backstroke at the Bay
State Summer Games in 2006 and came in second in
Janet Scott Boland
Beverly Assistant Senior Coach
Jan has coached with YNS for over 10 years, primarily with the Senior group. She has coached all levels of the YNS team. Jan is an ASCA Level 2 Coach and has completed the Physiology School Certification for ASCA Level 3. Jan has participated in many ASCA Clinics over the years. Jan is a life long YMCA swimmer and swam in college for the Wittenberg University Women’s Swim Team. Jan and her husband, Jim, are active members of the Masters Swim Team. She consistently places in the Top 20 for her age group in the US. Jan has also competed in triathlons and duathlons in the USA and New Zealand, placing first woman overall in a number of races. She was ranked 25th in the USA in her age group and named an honorary member of the New Zealand World Championship Triathlon Team in 1991. Jan has her B.A. in Psychology from Wittenberg University. She also holds a Masters in Labor and Industrial Relations from Michigan State University. Jan worked in Human Resources for over 10 years for Fortune 500 Companies and as a consultant. Jan has two daughters who competed for the Sharks. Her younger daughter also competed for the YMCA Wildcats gymnastics team.
Beverly Assistant Coach
Carly has been coaching with YNS at the Ipswich site since 2011 and
has recently moved to coach at the Beverly site. Prior to
coaching with the Sharks, I coached with clubs in North Carolina
and Minnesota. I am very passionate about swimming and love
working to help young people become better athletes. I have
been swimming competitively since I was 6 years old. My
swimming career culminated at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN,
and now I continue to swim with the Sharks' Masters group.
David M Swensen
Beverly Dryland Coach
David has a long history of
success in the pool, where he started swimming for a YMCA program.
He swam for the
, Amherst (Division I
team) for four years and was an assistant coach for the Minutemen
from 1983-1984. David continues his swimming career as a Master's
swimmer for the YMCA of the
. David was an
assistant coach for the Palm Springs Piranhas (1984-85)
(1989-1990). He has
also coached with the Brea Master's and Whittier Master's programs
) from 1986-1990.
David received his B.S. in Exercise Science, a Masters of Applied
Science in Musckuloskeletal Management, and is a Doctor of
Chiropractic. He is a certified Chiropractic Sports Physician. He
is a Fellow of the
, and is a certified
Strength and Conditioning Specialist. David, along with his wife
Deanna, own and operate the
. David is an ASCA
Level 2 Coach.
Beth Ann Lott
Cape Ann Assistant Coach
Beth has years of
experience teaching swimming and is currently the Aquatics Director
at the Manchester Athletic Club. Her athletic experience includes
running marathons. Beth is a graduate of
with a degree in Business. Beth is married
and the mother of three boys. Beth is an ASCA Level 2
Beverly Assistant Coach
Julie has been a swim
instructor since 1984 as well as coaching for YNS. Julie graduated
with an Associates Degree in Art in 1976.
She has been an Aquatics Director of the Beverly YMCA. Julie
currently works at the Danvers Bank. Her daughter, Robyn, swam
for the YNS Sharks and now is a member of the
Keene State Swimming Team. Julie is ASCA Level 3
Jenny Ross Luker
LVO Assistant Coach
Jennifer joined the YNS staff in 2008 as director of
dryland training for the Junior and Senior groups and coaches the
Junior 2 and Maroon 1 Group. She has been involved in swimming for
more than 30 years. As a college athlete, she was conference
champion and record holder for the
swim team, with 53 national swim titles the most
successful college athletic program in NCAA history. As a master
swimmer, she is a national champion, USMS All American and world record relay titleholder. Her
step-daughter Danielle Seltzer was a 2009 NCAA All American swimmer
and her son Charlie is a rising YNS age group swimmer. Jennifer is
an ASCA Level 2 certified coach.
